"We play, not for money, but to celebrate happiness."
- Brazilian musician Carlinhos Brown
Brown sold water bottles on the streets of Salvador de Bahia, Brazil as a child and began drumming on the empty water bottles. When he was a teenager he changed his name from Antonio Carlos Santos Freita to Carlinhos Brown after falling in love with the music of James Brown. Today Brown is known for taking Afro-Brazilian drumming, and setting it to a pop beat, with electric guitars and a brass section. Read more about Carlinhos Brown here.
